Prominent Uasin Gishu farmer, businessman, and politician Jackson Kibor is this Friday, April 1, 2022, set to be laid to rest at his rural home in Kabenes, Soy Sub County.
The family of Mzee Kibor says they settled on Kabenes as a burial place to fulfill his wish of being laid to rest next to his late wife, Mary.
Despite an active court case filed by three people claiming to be children of Mzee Kibor who want the burial plans stopped until they are involved in the plans, the family seems to be going ahead with their plans.
On Thursday, they held a requiem mass at the African Inland Church (AIC) Fellowship in Eldoret town.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago, County Assembly Speaker David Kiplagat, Soy MP Caleb Kositany, and former powerful minister Henry Kosgey among others attended the mass.
After the mass, the body of Mzee Kibor was moved to his rural home.
One of the prayers from the three who have filed the case under certificate of urgency was for the family to be stopped from removing the body of Mzee Kibor from the Eldoret Hospital Mortuary.
However, with no court order on the same, the family was at liberty to go on with the burial plans and transport the body to the rural home where Mzee will have to spend his last night before the burial as per the traditions.
The case is expected to be heard this morning before the Eldoret Principal Magistrate Naomi Wanjiru.
All the three applicants, two men, and a woman claim they were born out of a romantic relationship that Mzee Kibor had with their respective mothers.
They want the court to issue an order allowing DNA samples taken from Mzee Kibor’s body for sampling for a paternity test.
Mzee Kibor died about two weeks ago aged 88.
He left 26 children.
