Nairobi to Continue Receiving Heavy Rainfall until Monday, March 9

The Kenya Meteorological Department has asked Nairobians to brace for continuous rainfall at least until Monday, March 9, 2026, in the evening.

In the latest weather forecast, the weatherman noted that moderate to heavy rains are likely to continue over several parts of the Nairobi metropolitan region.

Soils remain saturated — flash flooding and runoff risks are high even with moderate falls,” the department said in an update it issued on Saturday, March 7, 2026.

According to the latest 24-hour outlook, which runs from March 7, 2026, at 09:00 to March 8, 2026, at 9.00, Nairobi county will experience widespread moderate–heavy showers of between 20–60 mm common across most areas.

However, there will be isolated intense pockets up to 80–100 mm possible, especially in Kibra (deep blue), Dagoretti North/South, Embakasi zones, Makadara, Kamukunji, Roysambu, Westlands, Langata, and Mathare.

Kajiado County will experience scattered to widespread heavy falls of between 40–100 mm concentratedin Kajiado North, West, and Central, with a likely elevated flash flood and runoff potential near Nairobi borders.

Significant accumulations are expected in Kiambu County of between 40–80+ mm around Gatundu North/South, Thika Town, Juja, Ruiru, Limuru, Kikuyu, Githunguri, Kabete, and parts of Kiambu.

In Machakos County (including Masinga area), isolated to widespread heavy rain of up to 50–80+ mm is expected in northern/eastern sub-counties (Masinga, Mavoko, Kathiani, Machakos Town, Matungulu, Yatta, Kangundo).

The weatherman said flash flooding is likely in river catchments and lowlands.
