In a major boost to emergency and surgical healthcare, the County Government of Nandi has unveiled a new, specialised vehicle dedicated to the safe and efficient mobilisation of blood and blood products across the region.
The vehicle, received by Governor Stephen Sang at the county headquarters in Kapsabet, is a cornerstone of a plan to significantly strengthen and expand satellite blood transfusion services. It is designed to meet stringent medical standards for the transport of blood, ensuring its integrity and safety from collection to delivery.
“Timely access to safe blood can mean the difference between life and death. This vehicle will play a critical role in ensuring that lifesaving blood reaches every patient in need across our hospitals within the county and beyond,” Governor Sang stated during the handover ceremony.

The new mobile unit is set to be the logistical backbone for an expanded network of blood services. It will directly support operations at four newly established satellite blood transfusion centres located in Mosoriot, Kabiyet, Kaptumo, and Meteitei. These will operate alongside existing services at the Nandi Hills Sub-County Hospital and the Kapsabet County Referral Hospital.

This expansion is expected to dramatically enhance service coverage, reduce turnaround times for blood delivery, and improve overall responsiveness to patient needs, particularly in remote areas and during emergencies.
The acquisition underscores the county’s commitment to upgrading its healthcare infrastructure.
“By bringing these services closer to the people, we are not just improving logistics; we are directly investing in the health and survival of our community,” Governor Sang added.

The event was attended by key county officials, including County Secretary Dr Francis Sang, members of the County Executive Committee (CEC), Chief Officers, Directors, and the Head of Fleet Management, signalling the administration’s coordinated approach to the initiative.
The deployment of the specialised vehicle is anticipated to begin immediately, marking a new chapter in Nandi’s quest for a more resilient as well as accessible healthcare system.
