More than 100 young people in Nandi Hills have received driving licences through the Leonard Kirwa Partially Paid Driving Program, in a push to expand employment opportunities and improve road safety in the region.
The initiative, run by Eldoret-based journalist Leonard Kirwa, aims to ease the financial burden of acquiring licences while equipping youth with skills for formal employment in the transport and logistics sectors.
“Today marks a great milestone in empowering our youth and community as we successfully issued driving licences to over 100 beneficiaries under the Leonard Kirwa Partially Paid Driving Program in Nandi Hills,” Kirwa said during the handover ceremony.

Organisers said the program is designed to create opportunities, promote road safety, and support young people to secure jobs and improve their livelihoods.
Kirwa used the event to urge beneficiaries and other road users to adhere to traffic rules.
“I called upon our youths and drivers to strictly follow all road safety rules to protect lives and promote responsible road use. Safety on our roads begins with discipline, patience, and respect for traffic regulations. Together, let us build a safer community for everyone,” he said.

The Partially Paid Driving Program subsidizes training and licensing costs, targeting youth who would otherwise be unable to afford the full fees. Organisers say further cohorts are planned for later this year.
