Nandi County’s strides in digitizing its health services took center stage at the just concluded Devolution Conference in Homa Bay County.
During the conference, Nandi County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health and Sanitation, Dr. Angeline Kirui, shared valuable insights as a panelist.
Speaking on a panel discussing the experiences of health service digitization across devolved units, Dr. Kirui detailed Nandi’s significant progress in digitising the sector, just weeks after the official launch by Governor Stephen Sang.

“Here in Nandi County, the digital transformation is actively underway. As of July 15th, 2025, we had successfully activated the Taifa Care system, powered by TIBERBU, in 60% of our 134 dispensaries and 14 health centres,” Dr. Kirui said.
How Nandi locals are benefiting from health digitisation?
The CECM also highlighted the transformative power of the newly operational system. The centralized dashboard provides real-time visibility into critical health service metrics across facilities, including: a summary of services offered, the number of patients seen, clinic visit patterns, real-time drug stock levels at each facility and status of Social Health Authority (SHA) claims processing.
“This digital leap offers a tremendous opportunity to increase efficiency in service delivery. Digitization will improve efficiency, promote accountability for commodities as well as human resource,” Dr. Kirui emphasized.
“Access to real-time data is fundamental for informed, agile decision-making at both facility and county management levels,” she added.
However, the CECM addressed the critical success factors and ongoing challenges identified during Nandi’s implementation.

She said strong leadership is paramount, coupled with close supervision and consistent technical support for staff at every level of care – from community health workers to facility in-charges and county managers.
A key bottleneck highlighted was the need for enhanced ICT capacity within the health department.
“To ensure the system’s sustainability and growth, we require additional dedicated ICT staff. Their role is crucial for continuous system monitoring, troubleshooting, and developing adaptive modules to expand the range of services covered digitally across our facilities,” Dr. Kirui explained.
