The County Government of Nandi, through the Department of Trade, Tourism, Industrialisation and Enterprise Development, has officially opened the Kibugat Open Air Market in Tinderet Ward, Tinderet Sub-County.

The new open-air market, the first of its kind in Tinderet Ward, marks a major milestone in the County’s ongoing efforts to bring services closer to residents and provide farmers and traders with accessible spaces to sell their produce.

When will the Kibugat open-air market be operating?

Kibugat Open Air Market, which will be operating every Thursday is expected to serve as a key trading hub linking business communities from both Nandi and Kericho Counties, thereby promoting inter-county trade and stimulating local economic growth.

Speaking during the official opening, the Department’s Chief Officer, CPA Caroline Lagat, commended the residents of Tinderet for their initiative and collaboration in advocating for the establishment of the market.

She noted that the facility would significantly reduce the distance that traders previously had to travel in search of markets, ensuring that farm produce reaches customers while still fresh.

CPA Lagat further assured residents that the Department is working closely with the area Member of the County Assembly to allocate a budget for the construction of essential social amenities within the market.

She emphasised that the County Government remains committed to improving trading conditions and supporting enterprise development across all wards.
