The National Police Service (NPS) has received assistive devices from the Kenya Reinsurance Corporation Limited (Kenya Re).
The devices were handed over at an event held at the National Police College Embakasi ‘A’ Campus in Nairobi on Thursday, March 13, 2025.
They included wheelchairs, hearing aids, white canes, and orthopaedic shoes all ov which will be distributed to 73 officers who sustained injuries while in the line of duty.

Last year, Kenya Re, through the Group Managing Director, Dr Hillary Wachinga, donated the first batch of assistive devices.
Following this, a field assessment was conducted to determine the specific type of device required by each identified police officer.
In his remarks, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja thanked Kenya Re for their commitment to supporting officers with disabilities.
He noted that the devices would go a long way in granting mobility and restoring the independence of the officers.
He further reminded the officers that they are a vital part of the Service and assured them of his support as they continue with the noble duty of serving the country and ensuring the safety of all Kenyans.

In addition, IG Kanja directed that an office be established at the NPS Headquarters and the NPS Hospital to fast-track issues relating to claims and support for officers with disabilities.
On his part, Dr Wachinga noted that security is vital for ensuring economic progression, without which progress would be curtailed.
He assured that Kenya Re would continue supporting the Service, with their assistance extending beyond devices to tackling mental health issues.
