The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) convened in Eldoret to assess the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s (IEBC) preparedness for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Samson Akoru, Moderator of the Reformed Church of East Africa, emphasised that it is the duty of every citizen to exercise their democratic right by voting. The clergy commended the IEBC for registering a significant number of voters during the recently concluded exercise.
Speaking on Thursday, May 7, 2026, during a meeting that brought together various stakeholders from six counties in the North Rift region, Bishop Christopher Ruto urged youths who have already applied for ID cards to collect them promptly. He noted that possessing these IDs is essential for exercising their right to vote.

Reverend Akoru also stated that the IEBC should be mandated to continue voter registration up to the eve of the election to ensure new voters are captured.
The clergy warned the public against propaganda suggesting that certain communities have been sidelined during the registration process, describing such claims as wrong and misleading.
Echoing these sentiments, Daniel Kipkoech, a person living with a disability, called for peaceful coexistence regardless of tribal or political affiliations.
“It is saddening to learn that some individuals are hiding people living with disabilities,” he said, adding that anyone who has attained the age of 18 should apply for ID cards and register as voters.

The two-day event brought together offices of the IEBC, the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP), the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), and the County Commissioner in charge of Interior.
