Owner of Collapsed Ruaka Building Arrested At JKIA

The suspected owner of a building that collapsed in Ruaka last week has been arrested.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the building owner Jennifer Kamau was arrested at 2 am on Monday, November 21, 2022, as she attempted to flee from the country.

DCI in a statement on the verified Twitter handle said their “hawk-eyed sleuths based at the region’s main international gateway, pounced on Jennifer Kamau, 59, minutes before she boarded a flight destined for Texas, in the United of America.

Police however said following the arrest, the woman was taken ill and rushed to a city hospital by the DCI officers.

She is now receiving treatment and the DCI notes that she will be arraigned in court once discharged.

In the unfortunate incident that occurred in Ruaka on Thursday last week, two people lost their lives after a six-storey building belonging to the woman collapsed on an adjacent building.

The building collapsed while tenants were asleep at around 3 am.

The 59-year-old has been arrested on the day another building also collapsed.

A police report indicates that at 4 am on Monday, the building in Kiambu County collapsed.

The collapse came just hours after over 100 households were evacuated from the building in an exercise that was led by Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi.

The latest incident has thrust Kiambu County in the national limelight over increased cases of collapsing buildings.
