There was panic in the Mti Moja area, Maili Nne estate on the outskirts of Eldoret town after a heavy explosion rocked a residential house.
The explosion was reported within the estate early on Thursday, September 22, 2022.
Locals within the area say they heard a loud boom in what some thought was a result of an explosive.
But following the incident and with panic growing amongst the locals, police officers arrived at the scene to ascertain the cause of the explosion and assess the damage caused.
According to Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Ayub Ali, the loud sound was caused by an explosion of a water boiler.

“It was reported that there was a heavy explosion in Maili Nne estate which was heard from very far. People heard like it was an explosive but police found out that it was a water boiler that had exploded,” Ali told Uasin Gishu News in a phone interview.
The explosion, police say, damaged the house leaving a huge hole. The house was hosting a family of at least 10 people, a couple and eight children.
However, none of the family members was injured in the incident.

“Everybody is okay. There was a man and eight children in the house but none of them suffered injuries,” noted the Uasin Gishu County Police boss.
He assured members of the public that there was no imminent danger as the explosion was caused by a water boiler that had exploded.
