Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim has highlighted his administration’s support for the bodaboda sector, pointing to KSh 29.7 million disbursed to SACCOs and reduced operating sticker fees as key interventions to ease the cost of doing business.

In remarks made during an engagement with riders in Eldoret City on Thursday, June 25, 2026, the governor said thousands of young people and families depend on bodaboda operations for livelihoods, and his government has remained committed to creating an enabling environment for growth and economic empowerment.

According to Bii, the county has disbursed KSh 772.7 million through the Uasin Gishu County Cooperative Enterprise Development Fund to cooperative societies across the county. Of that amount, KSh 29.7 million was channeled to 18 bodaboda SACCOs to strengthen their operations and expand opportunities for members.

The governor also noted that his administration had already reduced monthly operating sticker fees as part of its pledge to cut business costs. Fees were lowered from KSh 600 to KSh 400 within Eldoret City, and from KSh 400 to KSh 200 in trading centres and rural areas.

During my engagement today with bodaboda riders in the vibrant City of Eldoret, I reaffirmed our commitment to continue listening, partnering, and supporting this vital sector as we work together to build a safer, more organized county,” Bii said.

This comes at a time the county governments face pressure to address riders’ concerns over levies and operational challenges.
