Police officers in Eldoret town on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, seized over 200 litres of illicit alcohol.
The alcohol was found in a rented house in Kipkorgot estate on the outskirts of Eldoret town which police say had been converted into a factory.
Ainabkoi Sub County Police Commander Leonard Muhanda says they raided the house after a tip-off from members of the public and the area chief.
“The area chief informed us that there was a factory that was making illegal alcohol. We sent our officers who came and raided, where they found it,” Muhanda told journalists.

“At least 200 litres of the illicit alcohol was found and has been taken to Naiberi police station,” he added.
According to the Sub County Police boss, the nabbed illicit alcohol is dangerous and unfit for human consumption.
He says is only made by mixing eternal with water.
“It is not fit for human consumption. When you drink it, you put your own health at risk. For men, you lose your ability to perform in bed,” Muhanda said.
One suspect, the owner of the house was arrested and he is expected to be arraigned in court.

Landlords
And following the arrest, police officers in Eldoret town are now asking rental house owners to ensure they know the kind of business their tenants are engaged in.
This follows rising concerns that some tenants were using rental houses for criminal activities.
It comes only a few weeks ago that police officers stumbled on the illegal bhang planted in a rental house in Elgon View estate.
“This house was rented to a person. It has no single bed, and it was near a school. It is only that the school became tired of the noise and reported the matter to the chief,” said the Ainabkoi police boss.
“For the landlords, when you rent the house, always know the kind of business that tenant is involved in,” he added.
Further, Muhanda issued a warning to others involved in similar criminal activities that their days are numbered.
He said as the security team, they will now allow a few individuals to manufacture and sell illicit liquor that also denies the country revenue in tax.
