President William Ruto has suspended former Kesses Member of Parliament (MP) Dr. Swarup Mishra from his position as chairperson of the Kenya BioVax Institute.
State House, in a statement on Friday, April 18, 2025, said the suspension takes immediate effect, pending the outcome of ongoing investigations into serious allegations of medical malpractice.
The suspension follows revelations of alleged unethical and illegal activities surrounding kidney transplant procedures at Mediheal Hospital and Fertility Centre in Eldoret — a facility founded by Dr. Mishra.
Authorities are probing claims of malpractice related to these procedures, which have raised public concern over potential breaches of medical ethics and law.

In a press release issued by the State House, Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed emphasised the government’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and reaffirmed its commitment to upholding integrity in the healthcare sector.
“The President reaffirms the Government’s commitment to fighting corruption, including upholding integrity in healthcare, public safety, and justice for victims,” part of the statement read.
Dr. Mishra’s suspension will remain in effect until investigations are concluded and accountability is determined. The development marks a significant move by the administration in its broader campaign to ensure transparency and ethical conduct in public institutions.
The Kenya BioVax Institute, tasked with local vaccine production and biotechnology advancement, plays a pivotal role in national health strategy. Leadership at the institute is now under scrutiny as the government seeks to restore public confidence amid the unfolding scandal.
Dr Mishra who served as Kesses MP between 2017 and 2022 had been appointed to the position in November 2024.
He lost the Kesses MP seat after vying as an independent candidate in 2022.
