Newly appointed University of Eldoret Vice Chancellor Prof Thomas Kimeli Cheruiyot has formerly started to serve in his position.
Prof Cheruiyot was appointed to serve in the position by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu late in August 2023.
The appointment followed the conclusion of interviews that were conducted by the Public Service Commission (PSC) to replace a position left vacant by immediate former VC Prof Teresia Akenga.
Following the appointment, the new VC took over his role on September 1, 2023.
A statement on the UoE website indicates that Prof Cheruiyot was welcomed by the University Council, Management and Senate.

He takes over the reign from Prof. Wilson K. Ng’etich who has been acting as the Vice-Chancellor since June 9, 2023, when he was appointed after the end of the term of Prof Akenga.
Vast leadership and academic prowess
The new Vice-Chancellor, second in UoE’s history, has a vast leadership and academic prowess.
Previously, he served in various leadership positions before his appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Eldoret.
He also brings on broad a wealth of management and academic experience achieved as a Professor of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), sustainability and Strategy at Moi University.
Further, Prof Cheruiyot holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Strategic Management (Moi University-Kenya, 2010); a Master of Management Sciences (Wageningen University-Netherlands, 1999) and a Bachelor in Agribusiness Management (Egerton University-Kenya, 1995).

“He has demonstrable experience in transformative and strategic leadership having served substantively with measurable results in the positions of Director, Centre for Strategic Leadership Development at Moi University; acting Principal at Bomet University College; acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Finance; Dean, School of Business and Economics and Head of Department, Accounting and Finance all at Moi University,” the university noted.
During his open and interactive session with the Senate Members, Prof. Cheruiyot encouraged them to offer excellent experiences to the students who are our main stakeholders.
He also promised to operate on an ‘open door policy’ and to work together as colleagues sharing experiences for the benefit of the institution as a whole.
