A section of church leaders in Uasin Gishu County on Sunday, September 4, 2022, held prayers for President-elect William Ruto ahead of the Supreme Court ruling.
The Supreme Court will today Monday be making a ruling on whether Ruto’s win was valid or not.
His main rival in the presidential race Raila Odinga filed the case challenging results announced by IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati.
And as the seven-judge bench prepare to deliver their ruling, the church leaders hosted the prayer service, asking God to confirm Dr Ruto’s win the August 9, 2022 poll.

“He has been given the name President-elect and today father we claim that he will be the President. The son of this soil, your servant William Samoei Ruto, we claim let that door open wide…” prayed one of the church leaders.
Further they prayed for the seven judges led by the Supreme Court President Martha Koome to have the courage to make a just ruling.
“When you pray in one soul and one heart, God hears your prayers. He has heard our prayers and we expect the answers tomorrow,” said Uasin Gishu Environment County Executive Mary Njogu.

The prayers were held at African Inland Church (AIC) Koilel in Kaptagat ward, Ainabkoi Constituency.
Further several religious and political leaders among them Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim attended.
Favorable ruling
And when he was given an opportunity to address the congregants, Chelilim popularly known as Koti Moja expressed optimism that the court will rule in favor of the President-elect.

“We are expecting answers to our prayers and we as Uasin Gishu, where the President-elect comes from, we expect that his win will be confirmed,” Koti Moja said.
“As leaders, we have prepared for a mega celebrations all over when the court gives a verdic that he was validly elected,” he added.
At least seven petitioners including Raila and his running mate Martha Karua filed the petition that seeks to annul Dr Ruto’s win.
IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati declared Ruto winner of the presidential results on August 15, 2022, after garnering 50.49 percent of all the votes cast (7.1 million).

His main, Raila Odinga, who claims the verification and vote tallying was not done in accordance with the set laws had 6.9 million votes representing 48.8 percent
