Ruto Launches TVET Campus, Roads, Power Project and Inspects Hospital in Uasin Gishu

President William Ruto on Monday, October 12, 2026, continued his development tour of Uasin Gishu County, commissioning key projects in education, energy and road infrastructure, while also inspecting the ongoing construction of a major referral hospital in Soy Constituency.

The Head of State officially opened the Kenya School of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Moiben Campus, the institution’s first campus outside Nairobi.

According to the President, the facility will play a crucial role in strengthening technical and vocational training by preparing trainers who will in turn equip young Kenyans with skills, knowledge and competencies for employment, entrepreneurship and other economic opportunities.

“The institution will strengthen technical and vocational training by training trainers who will help equip young Kenyans with the skills, knowledge and competencies needed for employment, entrepreneurship and other economic opportunities,” said Ruto during the opening of the Kenya School of TVET Moiben Campus.

Ruto said the government plans to expand the institution and construct student hostels to support its growth and increasing enrollment.

Boost for Skills Training and Youth Employment

The opening of the Moiben campus is part of the government’s broader agenda to enhance skills development and align training with labour market demands. The institution is expected to serve as a key centre for training TVET instructors who will help improve the quality of vocational education across the country.

In Moiben Constituency, the President also flagged off the KSh466 million Moiben Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project, which is set to connect 3,925 households to electricity.

He noted that the initiative forms part of a wider KSh3.6 billion investment aimed at connecting 28,820 homes to power across Uasin Gishu County, a move expected to improve living standards and support economic activities in rural and peri-urban areas.

Major Healthcare Investment Underway

During his tour, President Ruto inspected the construction of the Ziwa Level 5 Hospital in Soy Constituency, a major healthcare project expected to transform access to specialised medical services in the North Rift region.

The 400-bed facility will feature five operating theatres, 12 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, 12 High Dependency Unit (HDU) beds, laboratories, maternity services, dental and diagnostic units, as well as a physiotherapy and rehabilitation centre.

“Once completed, the hospital will expand access to specialised healthcare, serve the growing population in the region and ease pressure on Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and other nearby referral facilities,” the President said after inspecting the Ziwa Level 5 Hospital project.

Roads Project to Spur Economic Growth

The President also commissioned several roads under a broader KSh35 billion road infrastructure programme covering about 400 kilometres across Uasin Gishu County.

Among the roads commissioned were the Soy-Serekea-Kilimani-Turbo, Nangili-Ziwa Machine-Ziwa Sirikwa, and Ziwa Sirikwa-Kerotet-Maji Mazuri-Moi’s Bridge roads.

Ruto said the road projects will ease the movement of agricultural produce to markets, lower transport costs and stimulate economic growth in one of Kenya’s leading agricultural counties.

“Our KSh35 billion investment in 14 road projects, covering 400 kilometres across Uasin Gishu County, will ease the movement of agricultural produce to markets, reduce transport costs and boost the county’s economic growth,” Ruto said.
