Simba SC Return as CECAFA Confirms 11 Teams for 2026 Kagame Cup in Rwanda

Six-time champions Simba SC of Tanzania will make a return to the CECAFA Kagame Cup this year, the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations has confirmed.

In a press release issued on Friday, July 3, CECAFA announced that 11 clubs will take part in the 2026 edition of the regional tournament, set for July 24 to August 8 in Rwanda.

Matches will be played at the Amahoro National Stadium and the Kigali Pele Stadium.

Simba SC’s return marks their first appearance in the competition since 2018.

We are excited that this tournament will give our teams a platform to prepare ahead of the CAF competitions kicking off in September 2026,” said CECAFA Interim Executive Director, Jean Sseninde.

The 11 confirmed teams include hosts Rwanda’s APR FC and Rayon Sport, Simba SC (Tanzania), Vipers SC (Uganda), Al Hilal SC and El Merreikh SC (Sudan), Gor Mahia FC (Kenya), Mogadishu City FC (Somalia), Jamus SC (South Sudan), FC Garde Républicaine (Djibouti), and KVZ FC (Zanzibar).

CECAFA said the 12th and final team will be announced on July 6, 2026.

The Kagame Cup serves as key pre-season preparation for clubs ahead of CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup matches that begin in September.
