Skyward Express Launches First International Route from JKIA

Skyward Express has officially launched its first international route from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi to Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The inaugural flight took place on Friday, November 15, 2024, marking a significant milestone for the airline.

The launch event, held at JKIA’s Terminal 2, was graced by several dignitaries, including the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Road and Transport, Davis Chirchir, Principal Secretary of State Department of Transport, Mohamed Dagar, East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament (MP) Hassan Hassan Omar, Woman Representative Migori County Fatuma Mohamed, Trans Nzoia Senator, Allan Chesang, and Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) acting Managing Director Henry Ogoye.

Skyward Express will operate three weekly flights using a Fokker 100 aircraft, aiming to attract both business professionals and tourists. This new route capitalizes on the growing visitor numbers between Kenya and Tanzania, enhancing connectivity in the region.

KAA said it was proud to support initiatives that expand air travel opportunities and foster economic growth.

Skyward Express is a private airline that also serves local destinations, from its two operations bases at Wilson Airport for passengers and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for cargo.

Currently, the airline flies to at least 10 destinations, including Eldoret, Mombasa, Malindi, Lamu, Migori, Malindi and Kitale.
