The County Government of Trans Nzoia on Monday, May 30, 2022, received a trophy for being among the best counties in implementing the National Agricultural and Rural Inclusive Project (NARIGP) Project.
Trans Nzoia is among the 21 counties that have been implementing the project funded by the Government of Kenya and the World Bank/International Development Association (IDA).
This is the second time the county is being awarded for best performance in the implementation of the project.
NARIG Project which has been under implementation for the past five years is coming to an end this year.
“Through the project, we have supported farmers groups with capital investments and training that have seen farmers increase their production and productivity in the four value chains of Tomatoes, Banana, Dairy and Local Chicken,” county’s Agriculture Executive Mary Wamboi Nzomo said.
“Also, through support to cooperatives, farmers have been able to increase their profits,” she added.
By the end of the NARIG Project, the County Government of Trans Nzoia is expecting to have funded 855 farmer groups (CIGs/VMGs) to a tune of Ksh291 million.
23 cooperative societies will also be funded to a tune of Ksh99 million for inclusion, Enterprise Development, and value Chain matching grants.
Currently, the County is piloting for Financial Inclusion Marching Grant with four SACCOs from Kiminini, Matisi, Endebess, and Kaplamai Wards – each targeting to be funded with Ksh5 million.
Other achievements for the NARIG Project include two multi-community investment projects being implemented in Chepkaitit and Muroki for irrigation being funded to a tune of Ksh133million.
Amani and Kaptega dams are also earmarked for funding.
“It’s as a result of these great achievements in our County that we have been selected among 11 other Counties that shall implement phase two of NARIGP named National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP),” noted the CECM.
Other counties that benefited from the program are Samburu, Turkana, Makueni, Meru, Kitui, Embu, Kilifi, Kwale, Narok, Kirinyaga, Kiambu, Muranga, Nakuru, Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Nandi, Vihiga, Kisii, Nyamira, Migori and Homa Bay.
