Uasin Gishu has once again taken centre stage in Kenya’s agricultural transformation after hosting the official launch of the KSh 34 billion Integrated Natural Resources Management Programme (INReMP).
The flagship Government of Kenya and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) initiative is expected to improve the livelihoods of more than two million people across ten counties.
Held at the University of Eldoret–Chepkoilel Campus on Friday, July 17, 2026,under the theme “Building Resilient Communities,” the launch marked the beginning of an ambitious eight-year programme aimed at strengthening climate resilience, restoring degraded ecosystems and promoting sustainable agricultural production through strategic investments in natural resource management.

Which counties will benefit from Integrated Natural Resources Management Programme?
The programme will be implemented in Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Kericho, Kakamega, Kisumu, Homa Bay and Migori, targeting 407,176 households and benefiting more than 2,035,880 people through interventions designed to improve food security, increase household incomes and promote sustainable management of natural resources.
It will support key agricultural value chains, including dairy, poultry, apiculture, horticulture and fruit trees, while promoting climate-smart agriculture, watershed restoration, ecosystem conservation and sustainable land management to build resilient communities.
Speaking during the launch, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi said the programme reflects the Government’s unwavering commitment, under the leadership of President William Samoei Ruto, to transforming rural livelihoods through sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation and strategic investments under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Mudavadi called on communities in the ten beneficiary counties to take ownership of the Integrated Natural Resources Management Programme by actively participating in its planning and implementation.
How will the Integrated Natural Resources Management Programme succeed?
He said the programme’s success will depend on collective responsibility in restoring degraded environments, protecting natural resources and embracing sustainable land use practices to build resilient communities and secure livelihoods for future generations.
Mudavadi, who is also the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs, further noted that all development efforts can only succeed in an environment of peace, calling on Kenyans to uphold unity and peaceful coexistence as the foundation for sustainable development and shared prosperity.
Governor Dr Jonathan Bii Chelilim reaffirmed Uasin Gishu County’s commitment to working closely with the National Government, IFAD and development partners to ensure successful implementation of the programme.
He said INReMP will complement the county’s ongoing investments in agriculture by empowering farmers, strengthening agricultural value chains and enhancing resilience to climate change.
Principal Secretary to the National Treasury Dr Chris Kiptoo said the Government has committed KSh 15.1 billion, while IFAD will contribute KSh 18.9 billion, bringing the total investment to KSh34 billion.

He called for prudent financial management, accountability and effective implementation to ensure the programme delivers lasting benefits to communities.
