Trans Nzoia Residents Issue 24-Hr Ultimatum for Kimani Ichungwah to Apologise To Natembeya

A section of residents of Trans Nzoia County has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to Kikuyu Constituency Member of Parliament Kimani Ichungwa to apologise to Governor George Natembeya.

The locals warned that if the leader of the majority in the National Assembly fails to issue the apology, he should never step foot in Trans Nzoia or any other county in the Western region.

This follows Ichungwah’s attacks on Natembeya’s personality during the burial of Mama Ann Nanyama Wetangula, the mother of Moses Wetangula, the Speaker of the National Assembly.

At the burial attended by, among others, President William Ruto, Ichungwah accused the Trans Nzoia County boss of being behind abductions during the Jubilee Party regime.

Natembeya was, at the time, the Regional Commissioner of Rift Valley.

Led by Dennis Wambalaba, the angry residents said Ichungwah’s remarks were meant to demean the governor who spoke against abductions.

Natembeya is our undisputed leader in this region and we won’t allow Ichungwah to disrespect him. He has a very clean track record that does not sit well with the likes of Kimani Ichungwa,” Wambalaba stated.

Ichungwah asked to make public apology to Natembeya

Njenga Karume, a vocal governance expert called on the vocal legislator to make his apology public and if possible, while in Trans Nzoia.

We demand a public apology from one Kimani Ichungwa. In fact, if you were under pressure to say what you said, we ask you to step your foot in Trans Nzoia and repeat the same. We will then decide whether to forgive you or not,” Karume stated.

In addition, Jecinta Nasimiyu, also a local in the cosmopolitan county urged Ichungwa to put his house in order before meddling with Western region politics.

He (Ichungwa) is a refugee in his constituency. He should make peace with his constituents before speaking about Natembeya and Mulembe people,” she said.

Meanwhile, Martin Nambacha, a Gen Z, argued that the allegation by Ichungwah that Natembeya should be held accountable for the bodies recovered from River Yala in 2022 was meant to dim his shining star.

He however noted that their plan to discredit the governor won’t succeed.

Natembeya in response to Ichungwah’s claim insisted that his track record speaks for itself. He noted that he served as a truthful man and resigned as a regional commissioner with clean hands.
