Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim has challenged the police to intensify patrols in a bid to curb rising cases of insecurity across the county.
Chelilim popularly known as Koti Moja says the security agents need to up their game and save the county from the criminal elements terrorizing locals.
He spoke at the county headquarters in Eldoret town during the swearing-in ceremony of County Executive Committee Members (CECMs).
While asking the county commander to take action over insecurity, Koti Moja revealed that he recently lost his stepmother to criminals.
“Kaunti komanda, kama uko na nguvu yoyote, kama ulikua trained, kama ukweli unfanya kazi, na ulikua sworn in like these guys, tuokoe Uasin Gishu. (County Commander, if you have any powers, if you were trained, if it is true you are doing your work, and you were sworn in like this people, please let’s save Uasin Gishu),” the county boss said.

Be vigilant
“Sasa huyo mama yangu sasa, stepmother alikua anajua kijana yake amekua gavana karibu analetea yeye blanketi na nini an nini lakini ashaenda hivyo bila hiyo kwa sababu kuna mtu anacheza na maisha ya watu. (My stepmother had known I am the governor and was expecting a blanket from me among other things but she is now gone without getting any of those. This is because there is a person playing with the lives of others),” he added.
But even as he asked the police to act, Chelilim also challenged members of the public to be vigilant against any suspicious individuals that visit their areas on the pretence of looking for jobs.
He further asked members of the Nyumba Kumi to also ensure they know all persons visiting their areas.
“We need to be careful with people whose origin is not known. They always walk around villages claiming they are looking for manual jobs but most of them have no Identity cards, their tribes are not known and they speak almost all languages. They have been sent by Satan to finish us,” said Koti Moja.
