Uasin Gishu: 30 Students to Travel to UK after Getting Scholarship from Chemalian Foundation

Over 30 students from Uasin Gishu County are set to travel to United Kingdom to pursue various courses after getting scholarship from Chemalian Foundation .

The students who come from the three sub-counties said they had struggled after graduating from university and failed to secure a job.

Speaking to the press in Eldoret, Dr Dickson Chemalian the CEO of the foundation said he decided to help the student pursues various courses in the United Kingdom so that they can earn a living and change their lives .

This is the only way they could better their lives since education is the only equalizer that could change them completely,” Dr Chemalain said.

Joan Chepchirchir, a student and a beneficiary of the Chemalian foundation said she decided to take advantage of the opportunity and pursue a course in social work.

She revealed that since she graduated from college, life has become hard in the country and yet her parents sacrificed everything to ensure she furthers her studies.

Getting a job has become a difficult task,” she admitted.

Chepchirchir said once they get the final support, they are set to travel to the United Kingdom in January and begin their masters.

Beatrice Chebet, a student from Moi University studying a degree in Electronics Engineering said: “it is about opportunity.”

I would be happy to seize the opportunity once I am through with my degree next year,” she noted.

Chebet said that the level of Education in the United Kingdom is high compared to Kenya and one can easily get a employment easily unlike here in Kenya where one has to struggle a lot after finishing your studies.

In the past few years, many Kenyan youth have been flying out of the country in search for greener pastures abroad.
