Uasin Gishu is among counties that have shrugged off the general lacklustre to produce surprise performances at the ongoing Talanta Hela Football Tournament.
Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Ababu Namwamba acknowledged Uasin Gishu as among counties that have produced surprises at the tournament.
Uasin Gishu County’s boys and girls football teams have qualified to play at next month’s finals in Nairobi, after quality plays at the tournament’s qualifiers in Nyeri.

For a county well known for athletics, the general belief is that Uasin Gishu is an underdog in football. Not much was expected in terms of football.
However, as Namwamba said, Uasin Gishu and Mandera are among counties that have proved that there is immense talents at the grassroots and just need platforms.
The CS further said he had been following the Nyeri competition and that the ultimate winner of the tournament could come from the teams that played at the Nyeri playoffs.

The boy’s team was unbeaten in five matches, while the girls lost two in six matches played. The CS spoke at the end of Nyeri tourney’s playoffs.
Uasin Gishu County Chief Officer for Youth and Sports, Nahum Jelagat also attended the event that was held at Nyeri Primary School.
