Preparations for the upcoming Devolution Conference set to be hosted in Eldoret town have entered the homestretch.
The County Government of Uasin Gishu has been preparing for the event for the last few months.
Among the preparations include an upgrade on key infrastructure not only around the Eldoret Sports Club – which will be hosting the first biennial conference but also Eldoret town.
With just a matter of weeks to the start of the conference, Public Service Management County Executive Committee Member Elijah Kosgei now says they are ready to host the visitors.
The three-day conference starts on August 15, 2023.
According to the CECM, they are expecting at least 10,000 delegates to be part of the Devolution Conference.
He is now encouraging members of the business community and farmers to be ready in giving the best to the visitors expected as a way of building the economy of the county.
“We want the money to remain in Uasin Gishu County before sharing it with our neighbouring counties such as Elgeiyo Marakwet, Nandi and Trans Nzoia,” said Kosgei.
Landscaping and painting
Further, the County Executive expressed satisfaction with the ongoing works to give the County headquarters a facelift.
Similar works are ongoing at the Eldoret Sports Club and the Kipchoge Keino Stadium which will host select games during the conference.
“We have done the landscaping and painting of the headquarters as well as all the premises that will be used during the event,” Kosgei said.
He spoke a day after Governor Jonathan Bii went around Eldoret town inspecting some of the ongoing projects in preparation for the conference.
During the visits, the governor interacted with locals among them traders, whom he personally invited to be part of the event.
President William Ruto is expected to officially open the conference with his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua also expected to grace the closing ceremony.
