Uasin Gishu is among counties affected in the latest senior police transfers effected by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Eliud Lagat.
Lagat announced the promotion of the Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi. Mwanthi will now be the new traffic commandant.
The position was being held by Fredrick Ochieng, who has been redeployed to police headquarters at Vigilance House in Nairobi.

Following the promotion of Mwanthi, DIG Lagat has named Wilberforce Sicharani as the head police operations in Uasin Gishu County as the new County Police Commander.
Mwanthi has been the Uasin Gishu boss for about six years. He took over from Johnstone Ipaara who was transferred in 2020 after the drama related to a botched attempt to arrest Kapseret Member Parliament Oscar Sudi.
Other changes announced by the DIG include redeployment of Central Regional Police Commander Jasper Ombati to police headquarters with former Railway Police Commander Geoffrey Maiyek appointed to replace him.

Senior officer John Chebii, who recently returned from the Kenya-led multinational security mission in Haiti, was also appointed Eastern Regional Police Commander after serving with the General Service Unit (GSU).
Chebii succeeds Hillary Birgen, who has also been transferred to Vigilance House.
The changes have been described as routine administrative adjustments aimed at strengthening operational efficiency and improving coordination in key regions ahead of next year’s General Election.
