Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Nominee Evans Kapkea Set for Vetting

Uasin Gishu County Assembly is on Tuesday, August 3, ,2024, set to vet recently nominated Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea.

Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim a fortnight ago nominated Kapkea to the position following the resignation of Eng John Barorot.

Barorot who had held the position for about two years resigned to take up a job at an international ICT company.

The vetting of the DG nominee will be conducted by the assembly’s Committee on Appointment.

Speaker Phillip Muigei chairs the committee with assembly’s top leadership including deputy speaker Sarah Malel, leader of the majority Julius Sang and leader of the minority Kimani Wanjohi also part of the membership.

The DG nominee is currently the Tembelio ward Member of County Assembly.

Speaking ahead of the vetting, Muigei said the process will be thorough.

Governor Bii on his part said his nomination was based on the need to have a youthful individual take up the position.

The County Assembly had invited members of the public to submit any information on the suitability or otherwise of the nominee.

Dateline had been set for Monday, September 1, 2024, at 4.00 pm.

After vetting, the committee on appointment will submit a report to the whole house, with the MCAs having a final on the nomination.

If given a green light, Evans Kapkea will be Uasin Gishu’s third deputy governor after pioneer Daniel Chemno and Eng Barorot.
