Uasin Gishu: Farmers to Get Subsidized Fertilizers Closer to Them

The County Government of Uasin Gishu has teamed up with the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) in a bid to ensure farmers have easy access to subsidized fertilizers.

County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture Edward Sawe says the county has offered  5 stores to be used as distribution centres for the fertilizer that the Government is selling to farmers at Ksh3,500 per bag.

Speaking to the press at the Eldoret NCPB depot, Sawe said the 5 stores are capable of holding up to 6,000 bags.

He also challenged farmers yet to register to do so, so that they can benefit from the fertilizer subsidy program.

The Government has been registering farmers, through which their details are captured electronically, and the same is used to generate an e-voucher for the purchase of fertilizer.

According to the CECM, so far, over 98,000 farmers have been registered in the county.

Sufficient fertilizer

On his part NCPB North Rift regional manager Gilbert Rotich assured farmers that there will be sufficient fertilizer for farmers this planting season.

The fertilizers, Rotich said can be accessed at all NCPB depots and KNTC stores with plans ongoing to avail them at cooperative societies.

Already farmers have started buying the fertilizers in readiness for the planting season expected to start later this February.

By February 10, 2023, over 28,000 bags of fertilizer had been sold to farmers.

Farmers can get the fertilizers at NCPB stores, Kenya National Trading Corporation (KNTC) stores as well as cooperatives.
