Residents of Kermetio village in Nigeria area on the outskirts of Eldoret city are still in shock following the death of two promising young men who died early on Tuesday morning in an unfortunate incident in one of the homesteads.

Kabongo area assistant chief Wilson Kosgey and Kermetio village elder Paul Biwot confirmed that 18 years old Ariel Lumilio, a form four student at Racecourse Secondary School and Hillary Kipngetich Cheruiyot 28 years old who are close friends died while trying to clean the borehole.

According to the Uasin Gishu Chief Fire Officer David Sitati, cases of people dying due to suffocation while trying to clean boreholes have increased in the past three months and the county has continued to discourage residents who are not trained from doing the work or hiring untrained persons to clean their boreholes.

The Uasin Gishu County government fire brigade retrieved the two bodies which were later taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary by the Kiambaa police officers.
