Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim, on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, hosted representatives from the Commodities Market Exchange (CMX).
Ambassador Phyllis Kandie, a Commodity Markets Advisor from the President’s Council of Economic Advisors, led the team.
It was in Eldoret to discuss the CMX pre-launch activity scheduled for Wednesday, December 11th, 2024, at an Eldoret hotel. This new initiative is set to tackle the pressing challenges local maize farmers face and is expected to bolster agricultural productivity in the region.
During the meeting, Dr Bii welcomed CMX’s introduction of contract farming opportunities for maize, wheat, and coffee within Uasin Gishu County, adding that this development aims to enhance the livelihoods of farmers by providing them with a more stable market and ensuring fair compensation for their produce.
In addition, Trade County Executive Committee Member (CECM) Martha Cheruto highlighted the county government’s commitment to fostering partnerships that promote economic growth and agricultural innovation.
On his part, Chief Officer for Agriculture, Elphas Kesio, expressed optimism about the potential benefits of the CMX initiative, highlighting its importance for both local farmers and the overall agricultural sector.
The collaboration is set to be a significant step forward in addressing the agricultural needs of the county and enhancing the market access for farmers in Uasin Gishu.
