Members of the Uasin Gishu County Assembly have called for the inspection of all recreational facilities in the county to ascertain their safety standards.
In a motion moved by Moi’s Bridge MCA Patrick Kimeli, the assembly noted that with a recent incident that saw five Arap Moi Primary School pupils drown in a man-made dam, there is a need to ensure all such facilities meet the safety standards.
Kimeli while moving the motion said a countywide inspection would mitigate the occurrence of such incidences in the future.
The ward representative further pointed out that Article 26 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 states that every person has a right to life.

He further said the Fourth Schedule of the Constitution bestows County Governments with the management of cultural activities, public entertainment and public amenities, including county parks, beaches and recreational facilities.
“This Honorable House urges the County Government of Uasin Gishu through the Department of Youth Affairs Sports, ICT and Innovation to carry out a countywide inspection of all recreational facilities to ascertain safety standards and mitigate the occurrence of such incidences in future,” Kimeli said while moving the motion.
The motion was passed unanimously by MCAs present.
