A record over 500 aspirants have expressed interest to vie for various seats in Uasin Gishu County under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
The aspirants will be battling to fly the UDA ticket in 39 different seats available for election ahead of the August 9, 2022 poll.
They are expected to face off in a fierce UDA nomination set to be held in April.
According to Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany, the popularity of the party is the reason behind the high number of aspirants seeking to fly UDA tickets in Uasin Gishu.

The county is home to Deputy President William Ruto who was on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, formally nominated and approved to be UDA’s presidential candidate.
“This is the only party that has a following from all over the country,” Kositany said, on the sidelines of the UDA National Delegates Conference in Kasarani, Nairobi.
The 500 aspirants in Uasin Gishu have paid for their nomination fees to vie for among others 30 Member of County Assembly (MCA) seats, six Member of Parliament (MP), Senator, Woman Representative, and Governor.
Kositany notes that with the huge number of aspirants, the party has committed to holding a free and fair nomination.
“We have only 39 available slots for nomination and this means there are many who will not get the ticket. The important thing for a free and fair process,” said the MP who is eying the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial seat.

UDA, rated as the most popular political party in the country today, based on the recent opinion polls received over 5,000 aspirants eyeing various political seats across the country.
Records from the party’s National Elections Board (NEB) indicate that it received 54 gubernatorial aspirants who cumulatively paid Ksh27 million nomination fees.
Uasin Gishu has 7 aspirants eyeing the gubernatorial seat on a UDA ticket.
In total, the UDA party collected at least Ksh340 million for nomination fees paid by the aspirants.
