President William Ruto and ODM Party Leader Oburu Oginga, have announced the formation of two joint committees to formalise the political partnership between Kenya Kwanza/UDA and the Orange Democratic Movement ahead of the August 2027 General Election.
In a statement following a Broad-Based Parliamentary Group and Governors Retreat in Naivasha, Nakuru County on August 10, 2026,, Ruto said the two parties have constituted a five-member team from each side to develop a joint manifesto and another five-member team to craft a coalition agreement framework.
“We agreed to establish a joint team comprising five members from each party to develop the joint manifesto. We also resolved to appoint a similar number of people to craft the coalition agreement framework,” the President said.
The move, according to Ruto, formalises the broad-based political partnership and gives it a clear mandate: “To consolidate the progress we have made, carry the reforms underway to completion and present a common programme to the people of Kenya for the next phase of our national transformation.”
UDA-ODM 2027 deal
Ruto said the establishment of the committees marks “the beginning of our journey towards August 2027,” adding that the approach would be grounded in accountability rather than rhetoric.
“We begin not with slogans or promises detached from experience, but by accounting for the mandate the people entrusted to us, acknowledging what remains unfinished and preparing the programme we shall place before you for Kenya’s future,” he stated.
The Naivasha retreat was attended by 312 Members of Parliament, 48 senators, 24 governors and 24 deputy governors.
The joint committees are expected to lay the groundwork for a unified policy platform and a formal coalition structure that will guide Kenya Kwanza and ODM into the 2027 elections.
