The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has announced plans to conduct grassroots elections across 22 counties on April 11 and 12, 2025.
This decision follows a meeting between the party’s National Steering Committee and the National Elections Board.
According to UDA, the elections are a crucial step in strengthening democracy at the local level. So far, the party has successfully conducted elections in five counties, and the next phase will expand the process to counties including Bungoma, Garissa, Isiolo, Kajiado, Kilifi, Kisii, Kisumu, Kitui, Kwale, Lamu, Machakos, Makueni, Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit, Migori, Mombasa, Nyamira, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Tana River, and Turkana.
A total of 113,800 candidates have registered to contest, with the registration window remaining open until midnight on March 21, 2025.
Interested candidates can register through the party’s online portal, UDA.ke.
The party has committed to a transparent and efficient voting process by procuring over 10,000 digital gadgets to ensure seamless electronic elections with real-time results at the close of polling.
“The grassroots elections are a vital step in ensuring that our communities’ voices are heard and represented. By empowering local leaders, we cultivate leadership that is both responsive and accountable,” said UDA Chairperson Cecily Mbarire.
Measure who is also the Enbu Governor asked UDA members and the public to participate in the process so as to ensure inclusive and representative leadership.
