The University of Eldoret, through the School of Arts and Human Development, is in the process of validating and reviewing new courses to cater to learners’ needs and help them meet the current and future demands in job markets and self-employment.
According to the Dean of the School of Arts and Human Development, Professor Jacob Onyango, many changes are taking place in society. Thus, courses must be developed that will respond to the new changes and needs in various sectors of the economy, locally and globally.
New courses at the University of Eldoret
The new courses that will be unveiled include a Bachelor of Arts with Education, Disaster Management, Development Studies, Media and Communication, Literature and Film, and Sociology.
He stated that the new courses will be more practical and involve students in critical thinking and new technology, with a view to equipping them with relevant skills that will enable the learners to work in different professional fields.
“We are involving different stakeholders to enhance the curriculum for the courses that we want to introduce unique from what is being offered currently in institutions of higher learning,” argued Prof Onyango.
He disclosed that they have completed the construction of a new studio that is set to cater for learners who will be undertaking degree courses in media, communication and film courses as he welcomed more stakeholders to continue supporting the initiative.
When will the new UoE courses start?
The don revealed that they have done a need assessment and established the requirements in the rolling out of the programmers scheduled for January and February next year.
The university’s Registrar prof Paul Tarus noted that the time has come when universities need to give learners alternatives that can help them access job opportunities across different professional fields.
“The success of the new courses at our university will also uplift the school of arts and human development and besides, helping the university to generate additional resources and place it as a faculty of choice for students across the country and beyond,” added Tarus.
