Cabinet Secretary for Wildlife and Tourism Rebecca Miano has announced that the National Government will inject finance to fence off the Rimoi National Reserve.
This is in addition to other infrastructural development lined up for the park to make it attractive for both local and foreign tourists.
Miano was speaking in Rimoi during the National commemoration of the World Wildlife Day.

The CS also recalled how Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich requested the Ministry to host the event.
“I remember when we were in Homa Bay, your Governor approached me and requested we bring this event here. Because he is a hardworking Governor and means well for his people, we found it easy to approve the request,” Miano said.
The CS further came with goodies of compensation cheques for 74 victims of human-wildlife conflict in a package worth Ksh 21 million for Elgeyo Marakwet county.
She added that another 261 victims would receive their compensation before June, 2026.
“The Government, through the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife has allocated Ksh 21 million this financial year to compensate at least 335 affected residents in Elgeyo Marakwet. Our goal is to ensure all pending claims nationwide are settled fairly and promptly,” CS Miano said.

Her Ministry also donated 12 water tanks to local primary schools for water harvesting.
This year’s celebration for World Wildlife Day was themed “Medicinal and Aromatic Plants: Conserving Health, Heritage and Livelihoods.”
“Conservation is a collective journey. When we empower the communities living closest to nature, we ensure that our wildlife thrives for generations to come,” the CS said.
“We remain committed and diligent to this course,” she added.
