Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich has conveyed condolences to families and the Tenden community following a grisly road accident that claimed lives on Saturday evening.
The accident involved a Probox vehicle.
In a message of compassion posted on his official pages, the Governor said the county leadership stands with the affected families during this difficult time.
“On behalf of the community and leadership I wish to convey my heartfelt sympathies to the families and Tenden community for the loss of lives through the grisly road accident that occurred this evening. May the Almighty God give you strength this difficult moment,” Governor Rotich said.
He also wished the injured a quick recovery and thanked residents, ambulance drivers, and medical personnel for their swift response.
“I equally wish the injured speedy recovery. I thank the community, ambulance drivers, medical personnel at Kapcherop Hospital, Chebiemit Hospital and Iten County Referral for the quick response to save lives,” he stated.
Governor Rotich urged motorists and all road users to exercise extra caution as schools reopen, to prevent avoidable accidents.
“Even as we open schools I urge all drivers and road users to be cautious so as we prevent avoidable accidents,” he said.
Is Tenden stretch a blackspot?
The Governor announced he will write to the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and the Director General of the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) over the Tenden stretch, which he described as an emerging accident hotspot.
“I will write to the CS Roads and DG KeRRA to inform him of the emerging accident hotspot at Tenden which has claimed many lives and injured many with a view of having design relooked at,” Rotich said.
The Saturday evening crash left at least one person dead and several others with serious injuries.
