An Eldoret-based textile company Zaritex on Monday handed over uniforms to the Eldoret Media Hub’s Football team – Hubz FC.
The uniforms manufactured and branded at the company will go a long way to supporting the soon-to-be rolled-out initiative aimed at creating awareness of the effects of drug abuse among learners as well as environmental conservation.
Speaking during the handover of the first set of uniforms to the Hubz Football Club, Zaritex Chief Executive Officer Daniel Odhiambo said the support was in recognition of the role the media play in society.

“Media is a bridge between us producers and also our customers and whatever they are doing is a noble course and that’s why we came in to promote them,” Odhiambo said
“We are still working with them as their sponsors and people who promote what they do,” he added.
He challenged other like-minded companies in Uasin Gishu to come on board and offer their support to the team.
Drugs and substance abuse
Odhiambo noted that their support and sponsorship of the Hubz FC is part of the Zaritex Company’s Cooperate Social Responsibility (CSR) as the initiative is aimed at promoting the youths’ talents and keeping them busy so that they don’t engage in drug abuse among other unproductive activities that may end up ruining their morals.
“We will be using sports to promote social issues such as creating awareness in schools, issues to do with drugs and substance abuse as well as going a mile further to encourage people to plant more trees and take care of the environment,” said the Eldoret Media Hub chairman, Gitaka James.

He further said the partnership with Zaritex is part of their efforts to support and help promote products from local manufacturers and industries.
Hubz FC is a football team that brings together journalists and media practitioners based in Eldoret town, working for various media houses.
The journalists under the umbrella of the Uasin Gishu Journalists Association utilize the Eldoret Media Hub as their working space.
The Media Hub was set up with the support of the Media Council of Kenya.
It was officially opened in 2021.
Apart from offering a working space for practising journalists, the Eldoret Media Hub is also a mentorship centre for upcoming journalists.
In addition, it runs a news website as well as an online Radio – Hubz Radio.
