The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has affirmed its commitment to support and empower journalists across the country.
According to the MCK Chief Executive Officer David Omwoyo, for the last few years, the council has been setting up media hubs for journalists.
Why Media Council of Kenya is setting up media hubs
Speaking during his inaugural visit to the Eldoret Media Hub, Omwoyo detailed the threefold purpose behind the establishment of these media hubs.

“First and foremost, we recognize that journalists need secure environments where they can work without fear for their safety. These hubs are meant to provide such spaces, ensuring their well-being as they carry out their important work,” he stated.
The hubs also serve as co-working spaces, particularly beneficial for correspondents from various media houses that lack dedicated offices.
“By creating these working spaces, we are also providing mentorship and training opportunities for young journalists, which is essential for the future of the profession,” Omwoyo noted.
Are MCK media hubs well equipped?
The media hubs are equipped with shared resources and equipment accessible to journalists, offering them the tools needed to perform their duties effectively.
This initiative also aims to foster unity and uphold ethical standards in journalism.
The Eldoret Media Hub is one of eight such facilities established across Kenya.

Meanwhile, the MCK boss emphasized the need for journalists to uphold the highest standards of professionalism when executing their mandate.
“What we urge journalists to know is that an action of one is an action of all. It’s the duty of all journalists to uphold the highest ethics and code of conduct. Only by doing this can you differentiate yourself as a professional journalist from any other content creators,” Omwoyo said.
