8 Cleared for Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker Seat

Eight individuals have been cleared to vie for the Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker seat.

44 Members of the Uasin Gishu County Assembly (MCAs) will on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, be voting to pick one of the eight to serve as the third Speaker.

According to an official list published by the Uasin Gishu County Assembly Clerk Shadrack Choge, of the eight cleared candidates, two are women.

Two individuals who vied for various seats in the August 9 general elections but failed have also been listed.

The two are David Sing’oei who vied for the Governor seat and James Kibor who was seeking to be the Moibein Member of Parliament.

Immediate former Ng’enyilel MCA David Sing’oei. He is in the race for the County Assembly Speaker seat.

They both lost at the UDA nominations.

Pursuant to standing order number 5(5)(a), I hereby publicize and make available to all members, a list showing all qualified candidates,” read part of the notice to MCAs.

The qualified candidates are;

  • David Kiptoo Chumo
  • David Kiptoo Sing’oei
  • Geoffrey Chebwai Rutoh
  • James Kibor Sing’oei
  • Lilian Chemeli Rono
  • Nancy Chemutai Sang
  • Phillip Kipng’etich Muigei
  • Tony Kiprotich

Uasin Gishu County Assembly has 30 elected MCAs and 14 nominated out of which UDA enjoys the majority.

James Kibor who vied for Moiben MP seat. He is now seeking to be County Assembly Speaker.

For an individual to be elected Speaker, he/she will need to get at least two-thirds of the 44 MCAs in the first round.
