AC Milan supporters have been ranked as the most foul-mouthed fanbase in Serie A, while Napoli fans emerged as the most negative, according to a new analysis of more than 179,000 online comments from supporters of Italy’s top-flight clubs.
The study, conducted by Wettbasis.com, examined 179,322 comments posted in the subreddits of Serie A clubs over the last 12 months to identify which fan communities were the most polite, the most foul-mouthed, the most positive and the most negative.
Researchers combined a standard English swear-word database with a custom list of Italian insults and profanity to assess language use across fan discussions. The emotional tone of each comment was also analysed and categorised as positive, negative or neutral.

While AC Milan led the profanity rankings, Napoli supporters were found to be the most negative overall. More than half of all analysed Napoli comments, 57.15 per cent, carried a negative tone. Juventus ranked second at 56.55 per cent, with AC Milan completing the top three at 56.10 per cent.

Commenting on the findings, a Wettbasis.com spokesperson said AC Milan supporters were identified as the most foul-mouthed fanbase, while Napoli fans were the most negative.
“An analysis of over 179,000 fan comments from the subreddits of Serie A clubs found AC Milan to be the most foul-mouthed Serie A fandom, with 14.63% of their comments containing swear words, while Napoli came out as the most negative fandom, with 57.15% of their comments carrying a negative tone,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added that Udinese fans emerged as the most positive, while Como supporters were found to be the most polite online community among the clubs studied.
To ensure reliable results, the study only included clubs whose subreddits had generated at least 1,000 comments during the review period. As a result, Cagliari, Frosinone, Genoa, Lecce, Monza, Parma, Sassuolo and Torino were excluded from the final rankings.
