The County Government of Trans Nzoia has stepped up efforts to fast-track completion of the first phase of the county stadium, with the Department of Youths, Sports and Talent Development on Tuesday inviting prospective contractors to bid for the remaining works after the previous contractor departed.

The exercise, which brought together interested bidders and technical officers, was aimed at familiarising prospective contractors with the scope of the remaining works, project requirements and expectations ahead of the commencement of the next phase of implementation.

Governor George Natembeya said his administration was committed to ensuring that the stadium project resumes without unnecessary delays, noting that the ongoing procurement process was a critical step towards completing the outstanding works and delivering a modern sports facility to the people of Trans Nzoia.

The Governor emphasised that the county would not compromise on quality, insisting that the successful contractor must deliver work that meets the required standards and offers value for public resources.

“We want this project to resume and move to completion as soon as possible. Our expectation is that the contractor who will be awarded the works will deliver quality services, adhere to the required standards and ensure that the facility meets the expectations of our people. We are keen on getting value for every shilling invested in this project,” said Governor Natembeya.

Chief Officer for Youth, Sports and Talent Development, Hosea Chemche, said the department was working around the clock to ensure that Phase One of the stadium is completed by March 2027.

Chemche noted that the completion of the first phase would provide an important platform for the development of sports in the county, particularly football and athletics.

“We are working tirelessly to ensure that the first phase of the stadium is completed by March next year. This facility will play a significant role in promoting sports and nurturing talent by providing an environment where disciplines such as football and athletics can thrive,” he said.

During the briefing, Quantity Surveyor David Wechuli took the prospective contractors through the history of the stadium project, outlining the outstanding works, technical expectations and scope of the assignment.

He also led the bidders on a site inspection tour, allowing them to assess the facility and gain a practical understanding of the works required before submitting their bids.

Senior Sports Officer Stellah Nasimiyu said the completion of the facility would strengthen the county’s sports infrastructure and provide athletes with a suitable venue for training and competitions.

She noted that the stadium would also create opportunities for young people to showcase their abilities while supporting the county’s broader talent development agenda.

Once completed, the stadium is expected to provide a major boost to sporting activities in Trans Nzoia, offering improved facilities for athletes, teams and sports enthusiasts across the county.
