ACC, Police Constable Among 6 suspects Arrested with Fake KDF Calling Letters

Police officers in Cherang’any, Trans Nzoia County have arrested six people alleged to have been in possession of two fake Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) calling letters.

The six were arrested in the house of Samuel Cheruiyot Naibei, a resident of the Kachibora area.

It is claimed that they demanded to be paid Ksh500,000 to issue a KDF calling letter to the local’s daughter.

Two of the suspected fraudsters are civil servants. Fatuma Kibii, one of the suspects is a police constable attached to Langas Police Station in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

The other suspect is Margret Abuya, Chesumei Sub County Assistant County Commissioner in Nandi County.

Other suspects have been identified as Timothy Kiptoo, Elvis Kiptoo Bett, Meshack Rutto and Victor Kipkemoi.

Confirming the incident, Cherang’any Sub County Police Commander Okumu Dullo said the six are set to be arraigned in Kitale Law Court.

When our officers visited the scene, the six were arrested while waiting for Ksh500,000 as a bribe so that they could issue the fake calling letter to Sharon Chebet,” Okumu said.

Naibei was told that his daughter was to join Lanet Military Academy for training.

The police boss called on members of the public to be cautious so they don’t step into the traps of fraudsters.

While we condemn this act, we also want to warn members of the public to be aware of fraudsters who impersonate KDF officers and dish out fake calling letters,” he warned.

Okumu added that it is believed the six had conned another family in Kapsabet, Nandi County on Wednesday this week and called on other victims of fraud to report to any nearby police station for necessary action.

Police recovered two Ministry of Defence calling letters bearing the names of Kosgei Edwin Kiplimo and Sharon Chebet Naibei from the fraudsters who were driving a Toyota Vitz vehicle.

They also recovered two envelopes branded Ministry of Environment and Forestry addressed to Kiptoo Bett, Ruiru Police Station original cash bail receipt issued to Elvis Kiptoo, Dennis Ng’etich Kipkoech driving license and one National Identity card belonging to Julius Lipwama Musebe.

On 14/09/2023, detectives from Kwanza arrested four suspected fraudsters in Kakamega.

The four are said to have conned 4 innocent members of the public in Trans Nzoia County and a livestock farmer in Uasin Gishu County.
