Several key roads to and from Iten Town are set to be closed as the ongoing Africa Cycling Championships head to Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The continental competition has been ongoing since October 9, 2024, with Eldoret City hosting.
For the last two days, main roads within Eldoret have been closed for the better part of the day to allow cyclists to participate in the race.
A huge part of the Eldoret-Malaba Highway was used for the competition.

As the race heads to Elgeyo Marakwet, the county has issued a notification to motorists that the roads that will be used in the completion will be closed for the next two days—starting Saturday, October 12, 2024.
Which roads will be closed for Africa Cycling Championship
Eldoret-Kapsowar, Kapsowar-Iten and Eldoret-Iten-Kabarnet roads will all be closed for the Africa Cycling Championship.
The roads will be closed on Saturday and Sunday between 10.30 am and 4.00 pm. However, motorists have been provided with alternative routes.
Individuals travelling from Eldoret to Kapsowar will be required to use Eldoret-Kiplombe-Sogomo-Kuinet-Mumet Junction then Chebarus Junction-Garage, Tachasis-Cheplaskei-Konyali-Kapsowar.

For those who were to travel between Kapsowar and Iten, the alternative route provided is the Kapsowar-Konyali-Kabuliot-Kapchesimbol-Tilatil-Chebokokwo-Koisungur-Iten Main Stage.
In addition, the alternative route for Eldoret-Iten-Kabarnet road which will be closed for the Africa Cycling Championship is Eldoret-Kapsoya-Ilula-Kipchawat-Keelu Resort-Iten Club-Kerio View-Lillies Estate-Iten Polytechnic-View Point-Kabarnet.
Iten main stage moved
Meanwhile, the main matatu stage in Iten will be moved to AIC Iten Road while the Probox Stage will be moved to the main stage.
“Motorists are advised to adhere to and follow the traffic signs and guidance in place as shall be directed by traffic marshals and police on site,” read part of a notice on the closure of the roads.
