The much anticipated 2023 Allan Chesang Super Cup officially kicked off on Saturday.
It features 400 male teams from Trans Nzoia county’s 25 wards competing for the Ksh1 million grand prize.
The tournament whose main aim is to tackle idleness among the youth in the county is set to also help in the tackle of the rising number of drug abuse cases and crime rates.
“We want to keep our boys and girls busy so as they are not involved in the increasing cases of drugs especially in rural areas and also tackle the rising theft cases especially in grains being witnessed of late,” the Senator said.

Additionally, 50 women teams from the five sub-counties will battle for the top prize of Ksh500,000 during this tournament, set to run until October 25.
“Let our girls also show their talent as they are always not involved in major tournaments being run in the county,” Chesang added.
The Senator who commissioned the tournaments at the Ndura Sports Complex, expressed his commitment to enhancing talent identification.
“This year, I decided to increase the number of participating teams compared to last year to ensure more talents are captured,” said the senator.
He also emphasized that early talent identification is crucial for building a strong national team ahead of the 2027 African Cup of Nations which will be hosted in East Africa.

“We are in talks with big clubs both nationally and international to see to it that our talented youths are being identified and recruited to earn a living as we all know our county is a sports powerhouse,” he said.
