Police officers in Eldoret town have launched a probe into an incident where Tony Chumba, a digital Strategist for Uasin Gishu gubernatorial aspirant Amb Julius Bitok is said to have been kidnapped.
According to Amb. Bitok, Chumba commonly referred to us Barmuriat muriat was kidnapped by unknown people in Eldoret town on Tuesday evening.
“We have taken the matter to the concerned authorities and investigations have began,” Amb Bitok said in a post on his official Facebook page.
The former Kenyan ambassador to Pakistan while sharing news of one of his digital strategists being kidnapped further accused one of his competitors for using violence and intimidations in his campaigns.
Without mentioning names, Amb. Bitok claimed the competitor had a few weeks ago tried to block him from accessing some parts of Eldoret town.
“This is not the first time that such thuggish behavior is being witnessed, in the past few weeks he has insistently tried to lock me and some other aspirants from accessing some parts of Eldoret town,” said the former Moi University lecturer.
“The hooliganism being perpetuated by this single gubernatorial aspirant should be brought to an end. Use of violence to intimidate competitors is outdated and belongs to the KANU era. We urge our opposing team not to transfer those mannerisms to our new political party UDA,” he added.
Amb. Bitok who is vying for the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial for a second time is now asking voters to be keen and ‘not give any opportunity to such characters to ascend to power.’
“Meanwhile all people of goodwill should pray for Tony as we remain hopeful that he will get back to us safe,” he said.
This comes at a time the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) campaigns head to the homestretch ahead of the nominations set for April 14th.
The party has attracted 8 candidates with Jonathan Bii Chelilim, Soy MP Caleb Kositany, Amb. Bitok and former Kenyan ambassador to China Sarah Serem considered the front runners.
Others in the race are Ng’enyilel MCA who is also the current Uasin Gishu County Assembly Chif Whip David Sing’oei, former Nairobi County Executive Veska Kangogo, Solomon Maritim Kiprarbei alias ‘Gavana wa Baiskeli’ and David Kemei Kaprotuuk.
