Eldoret City Gets New Equipment to Boost Waste Management

Eldoret City has acquired new waste management equipment as part of its push to become a clean, green and smart urban centre.

Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim on Tuesday, October 27, 2026,  inspected and flagged off the equipment, which includes litter bins and skip containers, at the City Headquarters in Eldoret West.

Speaking during the inspection, Governor Bii said the acquisition is part of deliberate plans to manage the city’s rapid growth.

“As Eldoret continues to grow, we are implementing deliberate plans to ensure our city evolves into a clean, green and smart urban centre,” he said.

He noted that the new bins and containers will strengthen waste management and promote responsible disposal.

“Today’s receipt of litter bins and skip containers is part of our efforts to strengthen waste management and promote responsible waste disposal,” the governor said.

According to the Eldoret City Board, the equipment will be strategically stationed across the city to improve garbage collection and keep public spaces clean.

Governor Bii was accompanied by City Board Chairperson Alice Kositany and City Manager Elzeba Busienei.

The latest development marks a return of the litter bins on the Eldoret streets, over three years after the earlier installed ones were removed over alleged misuse by locals.
