Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition has received a boost in its bid to get a fair share of votes in Uasin Gishu County.
This is after over 40 officials of the Amani National Congress (ANC) joined them.
The Azimio campaign’s leader in the North Rift Eng. Alex Tolgos and former minister Sally Kosgey received the defectors that also included over 20 youth from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on Monday, June 27, 2022.
Speaking during the event at Azimio Centre in Eldoret, Tolgos said “these defectors have read the political signs and have chosen to join the winning team.”
He said they will incorporate the new members into their campaign teams, so as to ensure they deliver the maximum votes possible to their presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
Similar sentiments were shared by the former minister Sally Kosgey who said the ANC officials and UDA youth had read the Azimio manifesto, and are convinced it’s the political side committed to addressing their issues.
“We’re happy to welcome them and believe they will help us get votes we thought we couldn’t get. They are now our disciples as we look for votes from other areas. We are confident Azimio will be in State House,” said Kosgey.
Among the ANC officials that have joined Azimio is the Uasin Gishu chairman Saina Nechu Cornelius and Pamela Raunga.
Nechu who spoke during the event said they have resolved to join Azimio as they believe it is the political outfit with realistic chances of winning the August 9 poll.
“As Uasin Gishu leaders, we want to be in the journey to state house being led by Raila. As the over 24,000 members of ANC, we want to reach those we have not, so that we all vote for Raila,” he said.
Tolgos and other Azimio-allied officials in the North Rift have been tasked to help ensure the coalition gets as many votes as possible in the region considered a Kenya Kwanza stronghold.
And in a bid to enhance their support, the Elgeyo Marakwet Governor says they are planning for a series of Azimio rallies across the region, which will be graced by Odinga and his running mate, Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua.
“We have already visited Eldoret, and we are now planning to tour Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet and Trans Nzoia,” Tolgos said.
“Plans are at an advanced stage, we’re just waiting for an appropriate time,” he added.
