Apologize to Judiciary and Kenyans, Luanda MP Tells Ruto

Luanda Constituency Member of Parliament Dick Maungu Oyugi has asked President William Ruto to offer a public apology to the Judiciary and Kenyans.

This is due to what the Azimio-allied legislator says is the President’s recent attack on the Judiciary – the third arm of government.

Speaking to the press in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, Maungu said President Ruto’s constant attacks on the Judiciary amount to a breach and violation of the Constitution of Kenya.

The President took an oath to protect our Constitution; however his threats are going contrary to his oath and he has no option but to apologise to the Judiciary and Kenyans,” the legislator said.

He also challenged the Head of State to respect the independence of the Judiciary and the rule of law.

The judiciary is the only avenue left for Kenyans who feel their rights have been violated. Ruto’s statement that the sword he has is not meant for chopping vegetables rather it is meant for chopping crooks is reckless and amounts to threats. He should be reminded he is not above the law,” Maungu said.

Protests over the high cost of living

The lawmaker elected through the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), an affiliate party of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition, said they are ready to go for demonstrations to mount pressure on Kenya Kwanza administration to lower the cost of living.

If Ruto’s government fails to address the cost of living, then we have no choice but to go to the streets and exercise our right to picket,” he stated.

The call for demonstrations has been opposed by a section of Kenya Kwanza leaders and some members of the public.

Kinyoro ward Member of County Assembly Andrew Kipekee said the call for demonstration by Azimio leader Raila Odinga is meant to sabotage plans of the government.

We know very well that Raila Odinga thrives in conflict and his call is purely meant to sabotage what our President and his government is doing for the people of Kenya,” Kipekee said.

Simon Rotich, a resident of Velos farm in Cherang’any Constituency said the Judiciary should not be used to discredit the Kenya Kwanza Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

While we agree that the Judiciary should be left to act independently, it should also not be used to slow down development and government’s transformative agenda,” Rotich said.
