Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has urged the Mulembe Nation to consolidate its support behind President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid, citing what he described as visible development projects transforming the Western region.
Lusaka, who also serves as President Ruto’s Western Kenya re-election coordinator, said the region was witnessing major infrastructure investments under the Kenya Kwanza administration, which he argued should inform voters’ political choices in 2027.
Which Ruto’s projects will benefit Western Kenya?
Speaking in Navakholo, Kakamega County, where he was the chief guest during the official opening of Emahuni Comprehensive Secondary School’s new storey classroom block, Lusaka cited the proposed Rironi–Mau Summit–Malaba dual carriageway and the Standard Gauge Railway extension to Malaba through Myanga in Bumula, Bungoma, as projects with the potential to transform regional connectivity and commerce.
He said the infrastructure investments would reduce travel time, lower transport costs and unlock economic opportunities across Western Kenya by improving the movement of people, goods and services.
Lusaka also pointed to modern stadiums, affordable housing projects and other government programmes as evidence of what he termed an equitable distribution of development across the region.
“The people of Western Kenya must look at the development record and decide who deserves their support in 2027,” Lusaka said, challenging opposition leaders to match their political rhetoric with a comparable development record.
He questioned the development credentials of some opposition figures who, despite having served in senior positions in previous administrations, he said had little to show for their time in office in terms of transformative projects in the region.
Lusaka urged Western voters to align themselves with the administration, arguing that President Ruto’s investments were improving livelihoods and positioning the region for greater economic growth.
Ruto’s development record in Western Kenya
Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula, who deputises Lusaka in the Western re-election coordination team, similarly credited the Ruto administration with delivering more development projects in the region than previous governments.
Savula accused former President Uhuru Kenyatta of backing efforts to unite the opposition against President Ruto, saying such political manoeuvres were intended to undermine the administration’s development agenda.
He urged Western Kenya residents to reciprocate what he termed the government’s development efforts by backing President Ruto for a second term in 2027.
Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe also rallied his constituents behind Ruto’s re-election, citing infrastructure and other development gains that he said Navakholo had recorded under the current administration.
